Nina Folkersma new director of Amsterdam Art

We are proud to announce that Nina Folkersma will become the new director of Amsterdam Art from 1 February 2021. The arrival of Folkersma coincides with a new set-up of the Amsterdam Art Weekend, which will be organized in the spring as of 2021.

For almost ten years Amsterdam Art has been committed to reinforcing Amsterdam’s position as a leading (inter)national contemporary art hub. Our annual Amsterdam Art Weekend – an extensive program of exhibitions, performances, screenings, debates and open studios – highlights the capital’s contemporary art scene and attracts art professionals from all over the world.

Marloes Krijnen, chairman of the board of Amsterdam Art: “We are delighted with the appointment of Nina Folkersma as the new director. With her extensive experience as a curator, she has proven herself capable of making artistic themes accessible to an audience of enthusiasts and insiders alike. Due to her great love for art, we look forward with confidence to the continuation of our activities, which are aimed at increasing the visibility of contemporary visual art in Amsterdam among a broad and international audience. We look forward to working with our new director!”

Nina Folkersma: “The Amsterdam art scene is very familiar and very dear to me. There are so many talented artists here, from all over the world, and so many fantastic art institutions that provide these artists with a platform or springboard. Amsterdam Art makes this visible nationally and internationally and as director I wish to contribute to this in the coming years. I aspire to do this by focusing on closer collaboration and a substantive program: cosmopolitan, experimental and engaged – just like the city itself.”
