Nina Folkersma new director of Amsterdam Art
We are proud to announce that Nina Folkersma will become the new director of Amsterdam Art from 1 February 2021. The arrival of Folkersma coincides with a new set-up of the Amsterdam Art Weekend, which will be organized in the spring as of 2021.
For almost ten years Amsterdam Art has been committed to reinforcing Amsterdam’s position as a leading (inter)national contemporary art hub. Our annual Amsterdam Art Weekend – an extensive program of exhibitions, performances, screenings, debates and open studios – highlights the capital’s contemporary art scene and attracts art professionals from all over the world.

Biography
Nina Folkersma graduated with honors as an art historian from the University of Amsterdam and was one of the first participants in De Appel’s Curatorial Programme in 1995-1996. Folkersma started her career as an art critic and editor of Metropolis M. In 2003 she founded a new project space for contemporary art in Amsterdam, Quarantine Series. From 2006 to 2009 she was a curator at the S.M.A.K. in Ghent (Belgium).
As an independent curator, Nina Folkersma has organized a large number of exhibitions, symposia and projects, including for the Johannesburg Biennale 1997 (South Africa), National Museum of Ethnology (Leiden), Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, ‘De Grote Kunstshow’ (various museums and theaters), Emergent (Belgium), Oude Kerk (Amsterdam), Framer Framed (Amsterdam), West (The Hague), Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam) and Centraal Museum (Utrecht). Folkersma also fulfilled various advisory and board positions: she was a member of the art committee of the North-South Metroline in Amsterdam, advisor to the Dutch Council for Culture and chair of Art Table Nederland.
